Job description
This position is primarily responsible for overseeing and leading the engineering team. The operational responsibilities will consist of strategizing, designing, and managing projects at every stage. The goal is to ensure the projects are completed efficiently, correctly and on schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Core duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Oversee and manage the engineering team
- Evaluate staff performance to ensure objectives are met
- Work closely with the production manager to ensure programs are completed and the correct tooling is available
- Determine equipment, staff, and training needs
- Hire, train, and supervise staff
- Review the team’s work for technical accuracy and provide feedback to direct reports regarding blue print design, programing, and other job requirements
- Utilize CAD/CAM applications to design products and program manufacturing CNC Machining Equipment
- Modify programs by selecting optimal machining conditions: feed, speed, depth of cut, and axis movements and positioning
- Set deadlines and keep track of the budget for each project
- Establish and monitor priorities for the team
- Work with cross-functional teams to resolve client discrepancies
- Research, development, training and implementation of new processes for engineering and manufacturing
- Utilize measurement equipment effectively (ring and plug gauges, calipers, and micrometers)
- Create bill of materials and assist with the ordering of materials and components
- Trouble shoot internal issues and client sites mechanically, pneumatically and/or hydraulically
- Work a flexible schedule and additional time when needed
Requirements:
- Bachelors’ degree in Engineering, or 10+ years of relevant and proven experience managing engineering teams/staff
- Analytical skills for evaluating information to solve complex problems
- Communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other management personnel as well as customers
- Detail-oriented with the ability to catch errors which can result in major problems
- Organization skills for keeping track of various projects, priorities, schedules, and budgets
- Ability to innovate and improve existing processes to make them more efficient
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Knowledge of the metric system.
- Ability to travel to customer sites
